Shamanic Apprenticeship Madison 2010
A letter of intention to those interested in attending,

My friend and colleague asked me to teach an apprenticeship in Madison and generously offered her home as a central nest for us. After finishing my twoyear commitment in graduate school with a concentration on Consciousness Studies, I bring new energy and information to a dynamic exchange with those who feel inspired to join me on a mystical adventure. It begins with intention: your intention, my intention and the energies that spin out and are woven together from that starting place.

My intention is to create sacred joyful space with others seeking to find more clarity and support on their own spiritual path. We each have a personal connection and resonance with the natural world that is our birthright. There are traditions and methods established to strengthen these powerful primal ties from cultures that maintain a reverence for the earth. Shamanism is the oldest spiritual way of life practicing contact with the Divine on a daily basis through ordinary experience in the physical world. I am initiated and trained in specific shamanic traditions and have many methods of bringing this information and the transmission of energy to others. Yet I find that what is most important to me, as a teacher, is to inspire and give space for that natural wild seed that has always lived inside you to grow and bear fruit. That is what you will take with you and which will never leave you long after metaphysical medicine techniques and philosophical concepts fade. What I want for my apprentices to know and to own is their own inner authority connected to the Divine. It is the everlasting flower of the soul’s knowing.

I am most interested in working with those who have a sincere heart, an open mind and the courage to unlearn, not know and be surprised and humbled by the vast mystery we are a part of. In the spirit of this I am offering to cover the following material and experiential learning but not be tied to it in order to allow for spontaneity.

Topics will include: Meditation, Shamanic Journeying, Basic and Advanced Shamanic Cosmology, The Luminous Body and Chakras, the Mesa as an Elegant Dynamic Altar, Shamanic Tools, Shamanic Healing including Various Forms of Energy Medicine, Retrieval and Extraction, Death and Birth Rites, Sacred Sexuality, Nature and Animal Energies, Working with Ceques, Divination, Psychic and Spiritual Protection, Cycles and Patterns of Light and Dark, the Paradox of Healing and the Archetype of Initiation.

Initiations and Transmissions: I will offer Rites of Passage using methods of direct transmission from shaman to shaman in the Peruvian Inka and pre-Inka traditions and the Chilean Mapuche traditions in which I am initiated. You will have the opportunity to grow those seeds to greater maturity in your life and give the rites to others as well as participating in and performing other shamanic rituals and ceremony.

The Medicine Wheel is a powerful mandala for transforming our lives and connecting to consciousness on many different levels. It becomes a map we can develop and use individually and as a group.

Session 1 is focused on the gateway of life and death. We will learn about the complex paradox of physical and spiritual realities merging and separating. We will perform the Great Death Rites giving each person an opportunity to ceremonially die to what has been and make way for what is being born as a more conscious destiny. You will have the opportunity to perform the death rites for others and psychopomp, assisting those who have died. A review of basic shamanic skills, beliefs and practices will be covered at this first gathering. Closing includes a ceremony to clarify your intentions and spiritual direction with a rebirth ceremony. This is an open class in which everyone will have the opportunity to decide about participating in the next gatherings and to confirm the dates with those attending. I will assess the group intention and adjust the course structure according to experience and interests.

Session 2 may include communication, sound healing, divination, Power Animals, shamanic drumming, shamanic ceremony accessing the shaman within, creating a personal mesa (medicine bundle) and the shamanic transmission linked to the lineage of shamans. We may also engage in practices for personal healing, releasing and transforming old wounds and repetitive patterns including working with the luminous body.

Session 3 may include extraction and shadow work, shape shifting and working within paradox, cycles of light and dark, yanatin and masitin, yin and yang, divine feminine and divine masculine, sacred sexuality. We will continue development
through the Medicine Wheel with initiation of the mesa. Rites of passage for coming of age will be performed.

Session 4 may include exploration of miracles, transmutation and healing the soul through Soul Retrieval of what is lost or fragmented in an individual and a community. We will explore the collective consciousness, the group soul and how each one of us holds part of the whole. We will create ceremonies of wholeness. Building the mesa through the Medicine Wheel continues.

Session 5 may include Destiny Retrieval and clarifying your guiding vision anchoring you to your highest destiny. Building the mesa continues.

Session 6 We will do a trance dance of creation, embark on a return to innocence as well as performing a ceremonial sacred marriage. The cyclic balance of light and dark within each person will be mapped and celebrated. We’ll have our closing ceremonies.
